Have you ever felt regrets in your life?
Let’s say you regret that you didn’t study enough for the exam and got a bad score. You regret that you picked the wrong major in university, and now you will survive for four years studying a field that you don’t really like. You regret that you refused a job offer from someone who would give you a thousand dollars. You regret that you didn’t confess your love to your crush, and now she has married and has a child with someone else. And many more regrets…
A regret comes with an idea that whispering to you: “If you made a different decision in the past, you would get a better result, a better feeling, or a better life.”
But how do you know the decision that you think will be better is actually better? How do you guarantee your other decision will make you happier than now? This book explains it well. From the point of view of Nora Seed, you will see what her other lives can be like if she undos her regrets.
In short, Nora is a person that has many regrets in her life. She felt guilty and thought her life was meaningless. One day, she arrived in the library. This library is full of books. Each book represent her life that will be happened if she chose a different decision in the past. And, she was given chances to “read” those books.
This book (The Midnight Library) is the first English novel that I read (because English is not my main language :D). I like this book. The writing style is also good; I can easily understand it. The time background of this story is set in nowadays, so you will find things like social media, Netflix, etc. I could say this book is like a “What If?” story, but the regretful version. This reminds me of Marvel, XD.
This book is suitable for us when we feel regret. Many lessons can be obtained from this book. If you think that making different decisions in the past will make you happier than now, you should read this book.
